This site is a tribute to Ruth Moher, beloved wife, mother and grandmother who was born in Sharlston, West Yorkshire on June 03, 1945.
Ruth grew up in a small mining community in West Yorkshire, her mother was a teacher and her father worked in the colliery, fitting pipes. She attended Normanton Girl's High school and moved to London when she was 18 to study English at Westfield College, London.
There she became involved in the political scene that was sweeping the country during the 1960's and formed the socialist views that would form the basis for her lifelong political beliefs. It was amidst this climate of political activism that she met Jim a fellow activist and they later fell in love and married in 1973.
She worked as a Social Worker in adoption and fostering protecting vulnerable young people and placing them in their forever homes. She later progressed to work as a Social Work Manager until retirement.
After retirement she became a local councillor for Labour serving her local community tirelessly from 2005-2018 starting on the backbenches and later moving to the Executive Committee. She served as Deputy Leader of Brent Council from 2012-2014.
Ruth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2019. She died peacefully in her sleep at home on 7th Sep 2023. She leaves behind, husband Jim, children Joanna and Daniel and grandchildren Jamie, Grace & Sophie. She is much loved and will always be remembered.
